Did You Watch Episode 3 of Broken Brain 2 … the Documentary?

I hope you were able to watch Episode 3: Rising Above: Healing From Toxic Beliefs and Traumas. If not, it’s still available for a few more hours.

Dr. Dan Siegel, one of the Broken Brain 2 experts, says “what you do with your mind can actually change the molecules in your body responsible for your health.” This would have been considered a “crackpot” theory 20 or 30 years ago, but today’s scientists are realizing the enormous power of mindset when it comes to our ability to heal.

In this episode, Shelly Lefkoe one of the 70 experts will take you through a powerful exercise to help you examine and reframe toxic beliefs. You won’t want to miss this one.

Chris Kresser, another expert and a leader in integrative medicine, discusses the importance of gratitude in this episode. He reports on studies that show having a gratitude practice leads to faster and longer lasting recovery — and actual re-wiring of your brain.

Here are some simple gratitude exercises you can do at home.

  1. Start a gratitude journal. Write down what you’re grateful for and add to your journal every day (commit to doing this for at least 30 days). To make it easy, just spend a few minutes each night jotting down 3 to 5 “thankful” highlights from your day.
  2. Pause before meals. Take a quiet moment of mindfulness before eating, silently thanking everyone involved in bringing you the nutrients you are feeding your body.
  3. Take a walk. As you’re strolling, practice gratitude for everything you see — the beautiful blue sky and fluffy clouds, the warmth of the sun, birds flying overhead, or anything in your surroundings.
  4. Each day, tell someone you love or appreciate them. It’s important to nurture the friendships and relationships you have. Remind yourself how fortunate you are to have these people in your life.
  5. Perform an act of kindness in your life daily. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. It can be something as simple as a phone call or a compliment.

I think you’ll enjoy these exercises. And as the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world.
