The Gut – Weight Loss Connection

We have ten trillion bacteria, fungi and viruses in our gut. These tiny organisms are like gatekeepers to your body and health, and get this: your composition of gut bacteria is unique to you – just like your fingerprint.

That allows us to analyze differences and what we’ve learned is that the composition of the microbiomes of healthy people and those who are obese are very different.

For example, overweight individuals tend to have fewer butyrate-producers in their gut.

What’s butyrate?

Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid that helps to regulate your metabolism and food intake. It does this by stimulating the release of hormones which signal to your brain that you’re full.

Now if you don’t have enough butyrate producers, your gut may be telling your brain that you’re actually still hungry.

To put this theory to the test, researchers took gut bacteria from obese people and added it to the stomach of mice and sure enough, the mice gained weight.

Butyrate is just one of several mechanisms by which your gut influences your weight. The implications are huge and show that when it comes to your weight, you’ve got to start with your gut.

Over 2,000 years ago Hippocrates said that all disease begins in the gut. And within the last decade we’ve finally understood how and why the gut really is the epicenter of your health…

And that goes far beyond weight loss.

GI health has been linked to chronic diseases, inflammation, depression, auto-immune diseases, cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease… the list goes on and on.

And it’s not really surprising when you think about it:

We can’t survive without food. And we can’t digest food without the trillions of bacteria in our gut doing all the work. So if the bacteria is disturbed, so are we.

It’s the new frontier of health and whether you want to lose weight, regain your health or simply wake up full of energy, this summit is for you.
